Why a New Mattress Should Be On Your Spring Cleaning List

Though the current Iowa weather may not show it, Springtime is here! And you know what comes with Spring? That’s right, Spring cleaning! Now, you may think of cleaning the garage, the storage room, and even touching up the paint around your house, but what about your bedroom? More importantly, your mattress. Spring is a great time to go out with the old and in with the new. If your sleep is struggling, it may be time for a new mattress, even if you’ve only had your current mattress for a few years.

Now, you know that the magic number for buying a new mattress is 5-10 years, but what if it can’t wait that long? There are various warning signs that will let you know if you need a new mattress. The most common being waking up with neck and back pain, not being comfortable in your bed, and not having enough room in your bed. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, it may be time for a new mattress.

Sleep is supposed to make you feel well rested and relaxed, so why are you waking up with neck and back pain? The answer is simple, your bed may not be the best fit for you. The best way to find a mattress that is right for you is to shop around and look at as many mattresses as you can, but you won’t be able to tell if it’s right for you just by looking at it. Test it out! Lay on it for 10-15 minutes while you’re at the store, your neck and back will thank you later!

The second red flag is if your bed just isn’t comfortable anymore. If you find it easier to fall asleep on the couch every night instead of sleeping in your own bed, you have a problem. If the hotel bed you slept in while on vacation was better than the bed at your own house, you have a problem. Your bed should be the ultimate place for relaxation, but if that isn’t the case for you, then it may be time for a mattress upgrade.

Remember when you were growing up and you knew you were getting taller because your feet were hanging off the bed? Well, you shouldn’t experience that as an adult, and if you are, it’s definitely time for a new mattress. Your mattress should be the perfect size for you. No feet hanging off the bed. If you share a bed with your partner, then you need to make sure there’s enough room for both of you to sleep comfortably. No more kicking each other in the middle of the night.

Stop settling for less than satisfying sleep. If you wake up with neck or back pain, feel uncomfortable while laying in bed, or simply feel like you don’t have enough room, treat yourself to a new mattress and get the sleep you deserve.
